On 16 June, the second edition of “Chinese Town” and “Fujian (China) Week” opened to the public in the Belgian city of Liège. The village decorated with red lanterns was set up on the Place Saint-Lambert in the city center, creating a Chinese atmosphere in this Belgian city. A market selling Fujian specialties as well as performances displaying the charms of Fujian attracted many local visitors.
Deputy Director-General Li Hong headed a delegation with members from governments, universities and enterprises to attend the event.
At the opening ceremony, in acknowledgment of efforts by the FAO and Mr. Li to promote Fujian-Liège friendship, Vice President Katty Firquet of Liège Province awarded Mr. Li the "Ambassador of the Province of Liège”, the highest honor of Liège to people from home and abroad who have made outstanding contributions to boosting exchanges and cooperation with the province.
Since Fujian twinned with Liège in 1986, the two provinces have maintained close exchanges and cooperation in such fields as government, economy and trade, tourism, culture, and education, yielding fruitful outcomes. Through platforms like “Chinese Town” and “Fujian (China) Week”, the sister-province ties between Fujian and Liège have grown stronger.
