Between November 29 and December 2, a delegation of 16 diplomats from 14 Belt and Road countries, headed by Mr. Leonidas Rokanas, Greek Ambassador to China, visited Fujian. This is another important diplomatic corps’ visit to Fujian organized by the FAO.
On December 1, Vice Governor Guo Ningning met with the delegation. She set out that Fujian, an important starting point of the ancient maritime Silk Road, has been designated by the central government as the core area of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. Over the past five years, Fujian has taken concrete steps in developing the core area, with deepened connectivity with Belt and Road countries and regions in areas including transportation, investment and trade, people-to-people exchange, and finance. The province is ready to further expand cooperation with those countries and regions into more fields, such as tourism, education, sister-city relationships, agriculture, marine industry, environmental protection, health care, and science & technology, so as to pursue win-win outcomes.
Ambassador Rokanas commended Fujian’s great success since reform and opening up. He said that through this visit, he gained a deeper understanding of Fujian’s economy, history, culture, and ecological progress. He looked forward to more cooperation and stronger connectivity with Fujian under the Belt and Road Initiative.
