Fujian and Singapore Seek to Expand Exchanges and Cooperation

A 15-member delegation headed by Ms. Fu Hai Yien, Minister of Culture, Community and Youth of Singapore, visited Fujian province from December 1 to 5.

The delegation was received by Secretary Yu Weiguo and Vice Governor Yang Xianjin respectively. Yu pointed out that Fujian and Singapore, being the core area of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and an important link of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) respectively, share a lot in common in economy and culture. The two sides enjoy close economic and trade ties, frequent people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and a sound foundation for further cooperation. Secretary Yu and Minister Fu exchanged views on cooperation on BRI, Fujian Pilot Free Trade Zone, shipping, culture, tourism and youth. In the meeting with Vice Governor Yang, both sides reached understanding on closer cooperation economy and trade, healthcare, culture and education.

The delegation also met with the leaders of Fuzhou, Quanzhou, and Xiamen. They had in-depth discussions on expanding friendly exchanges and practical cooperation between Singapore and Fujian in areas including economy and trade, industrial parks, culture, education, elderly care and shipping. The delegation also visited local scenic spots and some Singapore-invested companies in Fujian, such as Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, Fujian Museum, a Singapore-invested container terminal in Jiangyin Port and Singaporean Bee Chieng Hiang Group.
