During November 20-23, Mr. Teshome Toga, Ethiopian Ambassador to China, visited Fujian.

On November 20, Vice Governor Guo Ningning met with Ambassador Toga. Governor Guo made an introduction on Fujian. She said that Fujian boasts both high quality development and a beautiful environment. As one of the first provinces in China starting opening up, Fujian has an export-oriented economy. The Central Government attaches great importance to Fujian’s development, granting Fujian a series of preferential policies and support for carrying out pilot programs. In recent years, Fujian has maintained sound and fast development. Ms. Guo noted that Ethiopia is Fujian’s important trading partner in Africa. Ethiopian companies are welcomed to attend major business or tourism fairs including the CIFIT. She invited the ambassador to make visits to more places in Fujian so as to gain a better understanding of the province, and facilitate cooperation between the two sides in areas such as trade and infrastructure.

Ambassador Toga set out that the two countries maintain frequent high-level exchanges. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, since taking office, has visited China and met with President Xi Jinping twice, consolidating the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Ethiopia’s Growth and Transformation Plan II has much in alignment with China’s Belt and Road Initiative. He looks forward to seeing more Fujian companies invest in Ethiopian in such areas as industrial parks, energy development, and infrastructure. Ethiopian embassy is ready to provide support to Fujian companies investing in Ethiopia.

This is Ambassador Toga’s first visit to Fujian since he was posted in China. During his visit, he held talks with officials of the FAO, the Commerce Department, and the Fujian branch of CCPIT. He also attended an African markets promotion event, and visited companies including China Wuyi and Star-Net.
