James Levy, U.S. Consul General in Guangzhou, paid a visit to Fujian province between December 3 and 5.

On the afternoon of December 3, FAO Director-General Wang Tianming met with the delegation. Wang gave an update on the exchanges between Fujian and the United States. He said that Fujian always enjoys a close cooperation with the U.S. in economy and trade, people-to-people exchanges, and sister relationships. As an important economic and trading partner of Fujian, the U.S. has witnessed a number of Fujian enterprises, including Fuyao Glass Industry Group, investing in America in recent years. Furthermore, the U.S. is home to the largest number of overseas Fujian communities. To date, 16 pairs of sister-city relationships have been established between Fujian and the US. Wang looked forward to sustained support from Consul General Levy and the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou for Fujian-US exchanges and cooperation in environmental protection, digital industry, sister relationship and other areas.

Consul General Levy set out that the U.S. and Fujian enjoy time-honored relationship, which could be traced back to the Boston Tea Party at the very beginning of the U.S. history. The U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou highly values its relations with Fujian province, and this visit is his seventh to Fujian since he took office. He thanked Fujian FAO for the warm welcome and looked forward to working with Fujian FAO to facilitate bilateral exchanges, including high-level contacts.

Luo Guansheng, the Executive Vice President of Fujian Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries also attended the meeting.

During his stay in Fujian, Levy also attended the 3rd Summit Forum of Fujian Private Enterprises, and visited Fujian Academy of Social Sciences and Fuzhou Fanchuanpu Catholic Church.
