Luo Guansheng, Executive Vice President of Fujian Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries attended Singapore National Day reception hosted by Singapore Consulate-General in Xiamen on August 20.
In his speech, Luo noted the deep historical links and close business and people-to-people ties between Fujian and Singapore. Since last year, through fast-track arrangement and video conference, the two sides have worked together to ensure essential business trips and minimized the impact of Covid-19. The first half of this year saw two-way trade surged by 20.4% year on year. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Fujian will further leverage the policy measures granted by the central government in support of its development, expand high-standard opening up, and attract more high-quality production factors. Fujian welcomes more investment from Singapore and the Foreign Affairs Office stands ready to work with the Consulate General to take cooperation between the two sides to a new level.
Singapore Consul General Nelson Ng Chiun Ming said that since 2013, China has been Singapore’s largest trading partner and top investment destination. Both countries have maintained long-term and sound cooperation in trade and investment, port management, aviation maintenance, urban planning, services, education and health care. Many Singaporean companies have been operating in Fujian for decades. Some even dates back to the time before the two countries established diplomatic ties. He believed that the giant panda cub that was just born in the Singapore zoo would mark a new beginning of China-Singapore cooperation and rapid growth of bilateral relations.
Vice Mayor Liao Huasheng of Xiamen, representatives of some municipal foreign affairs offices and other sectors of society also attended the reception.
